When searching and applying for online jobs, there are simple things to remember that some of us might have missed. Some of these points are taken from my observation on the comments I received on this website.

Here’s my own list:

  1. Read the advertisements carefully.
  2. Check the contact details. There are instructions to follow like email your resume, use a particular subject in your heading, etc.
  3. Do not just post your personal details on the comments unless you are asked to leave your contact details and that you will be contacted.
  4. Check the payment methods. Some will pay through online payment gateways like Paypal, MoneyBookers, AlertPay. Some will pay through bank deposits or Western Union. If you can not receive payments using any of the following, inquire first before you apply. It will save you time and effort.
  5. Check how often you will get paid. Some jobs are paid as soon as they are finished while some are paid periodically. If you are unsure whether you’ll get paid or not, then don’t apply. It will save yourself from stress of thinking when will you get paid.
  6. Check your availability. Most online jobs require indefinite number of hours from a few minutes to 24/7 on-call depending on the client’s prerogative.
  7. Not all jobs found online are legit. Jobs posted on this site are taken from various sources. I have not personally applied for these jobs so I cannot vouch for their legitimacy.  I had my own share of unpaid projects or jobs. Use due diligence always.
  8. Do not pay so-called registration fees just to be able to work for a certain program. Try first those jobs that don’t require you to pay anything.
  9. Maintain an online portfolio, if you must, especially if you are a writer, blogger, or a designer. Instead of sending a new article or design everytime you apply, direct possible employers to your portfolio.
  10. Check  My Online Journey for other online jobs that you can do on your own time, at the comfort of your own home.

Hope these pointers will help many of us who continually search for online jobs, part-time or full-time.
